In a narrow alley near Galaxidi’s port you’ll meet “Bebelis” Tavern known for its gorgeous delicacies.
The site used to be a weaving workshop and has kept a lot of its characteristics as the lofts that remain intact.
The tavern-restaurant Bebelis has been operating in Galaxidi since 1985. The owner is Mr. Nikos Theocharis and has precious assistants his wife and his daughter.
He is the one who prepares the dishes with the tidbits and the meals. Mrs. Kristalia with their daughter Sophia serve.
The Bebelis’ Delicacies
The menu is based mainly on local tastes and recipes. One of them is “kelemia” which I tried for the first time. These are stuffed onions with minced-meat, rice and flavorings. It’s an excellent taste. If you ever find yourself in these places is worth the try.
All the dishes were delicious and made by love and care.
Apart from “Kelemia” we tried mushrooms cooked in wine with pine cones and nuts, feta saganaki with sesame and honey and delicious pork with prunes.
As far as concerns the desert they offered us a wonderful sweet with caramel and must. The owners inspired this.
I didn’t try them all-I couldn’t eat more- but the customers of the adjoining tables were praising the hock and the cabbage rolls.
So if you ever find yourself in Galaxidi and you want to try local tastes in a beautiful environment where someone gentle and smiling will serve you, then go to Bebelis and you’ll remember me.
*I was a guest in Bebelis Tavern but my article, as always, represents my personal opinion.
